History

Over 50 years of commitment to development

In 1957, Jaragua Equipamentos Industriais was born - as a Brazilian company with German capital - in Vila Leopoldina, Sao Paulo, its main activity being capital goods production. As a factory of factories, Jaraguá has always sought to look ahead, always keeping an ethical and responsible behaviour.

For over 25 years Jaraguá produced in its Vila Leopoldina facility all kinds of equipment for base industry, supplying - even at that time - to the largest Brazilian companies, such as Petrobras. During that period, Jaraguá developed pari passu, its design engineering and construction area. The Company was doing quite well and growing at a rapid pace, following the tracks of Brazil' s industrialization during the 60's and 70's, always keeping a close view to quality of the products, as well as to technological improvement and development of its human resources.

With increasing market demand, the need for physical expansion of Jaragua became imperative. In São Paulo, the neighbourhood where it was located seemed insufficient to allow further expansion. This context was critical to Jaragua decision of acquiring in 1973, a tract of 234 thousand m2 in the city of Sorocaba (about 80 km from Sao Paulo) along the road Castelinho, for the construction of its new plant. The move to new headquarters in Sorocaba, took place in 1981.

Parallel to the evolution of Jaragua, another company, located in Osasco, also grew and excelled in the segment of manufacturing industrial equipment.

It was Garcia Engenharia, a firm owned by Mr. Alvaro Bernardes Garcia. Mr. Alvaro's company had its beginnings in 1968, as a small workshop to provide services in the areas of industrial maintenance and overhauling of mechanical components. Since 1975, the old shop snowballed, leveraging in 1986 the construction of a new plant in Osasco, with an area of 10 thousand m2, for the production of machinery and special equipment, parts and components for industrial application, machining services and plate bending. Besides manufacturing of equipment, Garcia could also develop complete industrial systems and processes to its customers. Its development was step by step. In 1992, in partnership with foreign companies in the area of technology, Garcia started manufacturing and marketing of pneumatic conveying systems. Three years later, a second plant was open, this time in Itapevi.

A great achievement

The major milestone in the history of the two companies - Jaraguá and Garcia - occurred in 2000. That year, Garcia Group took over Jaraguá Equipamentos Industriais and, since then, Jaraguá Garcia Group has been a leader in the Capital goods market. The merging of the Jaragua and Garcia offered to the market a wider new scenario: three industrial facilities (São Paulo, Osasco and Itapevi) totalling 300 thousand m2 of area, a wider range of products and services, and an improvement of technical capability. The results came rather quickly. In the year following the merger, the backlog of Jaraguá grew 120%. Revenues, which in 2000 were $ 20 million, went to $ 120 million in 2003. Year after year, these numbers increased. In 2009 alone, sales reached $ 440 million and incoming orders surpassed $ 1,2 bi.
